Life Long Learning & Training
MALA is dedicated to quality services through education. Our Life Long Learning program is specifically designed to meet the unique training of needs of persons working in assisted living. Our educational programs are tailored to the requirements of the adult learner from the seasoned professional to those just entering the field.
Each year, in May, MALA sponsors Michigan's largest Assisted Living Annual Conference and Tradeshow. Throughout the year, we travel across the state to bring you a variety of seminars. In addition, we have customized training modules for presentations at member sites for groups of all sizes. MALA also offers self-study and webinar training options that allow Adult Foster Care Administrators and Licensees to earn continuing education credits. Meet our Director of Quality Assurance and Education
Brenda Roberts serves as MALA's Director of Quality Assurance and Education. Brenda has worked for over 30 years in the long-term care industry. She began her career as a live-in provider in a group home for persons with developmental disabilities. Brenda has had the honor of serving as the state's leading advocate for residents of licensed long-term care facilities as Michigan's State Long Term Care Ombudsman. In addition, she has worked for the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging, an Area Agency on Aging and the Medicare and Medicaid Assistance Program.
In recent years, Brenda has worked for large Michigan-based assisted living providers serving the elderly. In this capacity, she handled licensing and regulatory issues, professional training and development, led marketing initiatives and developd quality improvement teams. Brenda graduated summa cum laude from Alma College with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. She earned her master's degree from Central Michigan University in Education Administration and Community Leadership with an emphasis on teaching the adult learner.
